English soccer fans will be interested to know that Watford F.C. (once owned by Elton John) has kitted out its Vicarage Road stadium with a 10Gbps integrated voice, video and data network supplied by Cisco.
The network will be integrated with the club’s soon-to-be-implemented CRM system and is faster than the nets of other soccer venues that rely on mere 1-gig links, according to a write-up on the Watford F.C.’s Web site. The network will be even faster than those of other clubs in Europe, including all of the German World Cup venues, Watford F.C.’s Head of New Projects Katie Wareham, is quoted as saying.
According to a Cisco U.K. press release, the network supports a smartcard system used by fans entering through the turnstiles and will support a range of services, including video-on-demand in coporate boxes and access to team and match information.
