My friend, Marcia B., had an unpleasant experience …
I’m at the local McDonald’s this afternoon with a dead battery in my cell phone. I’m looking and looking for a pay phone so I can call for a cab ride home. Finding none, I finally ask at the counter if anyone knows where the nearest pay phone is. One young man says, “Sure, use our ph–” but is brusquely interrupted by an older cow-orker who says, “No. Customers are Not Allowed to use our phone.”
The young man digs in his pocket and, saying, “Here, use my cell,” hands it across the counter.
His smile, while very friendly, seems to have just the slightest slyness to it, and I understand why when I see that he’s handing me his shiny new iPhone.I worked hard all my life, often making some good money, but there’s no way I could satisfy my current near-terminal lust for an iPhone and I’m being handed one by a teenager whose summer job is a minimum-wage hamburger-wrapping schtick!!Mom never said life would be fair, but c’monoooonnnnn… 😉
And yes, it was Kewl.
