I’ve now heard from the Disney Movie Club member who forwarded the sorry-about-that letter he received from Disney to attrition.org, which in turn was nice enough to send a copy to us. When not watching movies, Herve Roggero is managing partner with database security company Pyn Logic, so he perhaps knew better than others what was at stake … and who might be interested in the news we reported this morning.
Here’s what he had to say in an e-mail:
The first thing that came to my mind was ‘Oh, no… That’s the real thing… .’ I am used to seeing these letters since I am in the security business, but this is my first direct exposure.
Now the question is what will we do next with regards to our credit card. For now we will monitor activity and may deactivate it later. … We will likely proceed with Disney’s service going forward unless it happens again.
Personally I find it amazing that large companies continue to disregard database security when there are proactive solutions available, including mine. What an interesting thought … a database security expert’s credit card at risk due to poor third-party data security practices.
Funny and sad at the same time… 🙂
Bet the Disney people are finding it more sad than funny.
