An online petition claiming to have the signatures of more than 20,000 people is attempting to block the ratification of Microsoft’s Office OpenXML format by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), reports InformationWeek. The group calls itself The Foundation For Free Infrastructure Information and is headed by Pieter Hintjens, a Belgian software developer known for being an activist for patent reform. As you might imagine, the FFII has long list of unfavorable things to say about OpenXML on its Webstie, www.NoOOXML.org.
