Microsoft will push back the release of Office 2008 for Macs until mid January, the company says. The original ship date was second-half of 2007. (But maybe, by naming it “2008” Microsoft always had an inkling that it wouldn’t meet a 2007 deadline.)
Microsoft is blaming the delay, in part, Apple’s decision to move to Intel-based chips. It also says its own decision to move to a new file format for Windows, the controversial Open XML, is slowing the product’s development.
