One Sentence to Describe Each Telco

I’ve spent most of my networking career working on enterprise WANs dealing with many telecommunication companies. I also worked for one who shall remain nameless. 😉 But, even while working for that carrier, I worked on outsourced enterprise WANs, so the interaction with my own company often felt like dealing with any other telco. So, I thought I’d have some fun and try to describe the carriers I’ve had so much fun dealing with all these years in their own words in one sentence. I’m sure this will garner a lot of agreement and criticism, but hopefully a little laughter too (in a geek humor sort of way).

  • AT&T – “We’re the biggest, we’re the best, and you will enjoy paying for that!”

  • Verizon – “Global network, got it; great technology, got it; customer service —- DOH…forget that one every time.”

  • Sprint – “You want some wireless with that?”

  • Nextel – “Why, oh why, did we let Sprint buy us?”

  • Quest – “Never mind that whole money meltdown thingy, we’re so much more honest now even the US government buys from us”.

  • XO – “What are we selling this week?”

  • NTT – “We’re great in Asia!”

  • Global Crossings – “Why won’t anyone trust us anymore, I just don’t understand it?”

  • Level 3 – “Things are about to get very interesting around here.”

  • Internap – “A decent carrier with great customer service, but we’re expensive.”

  • China Telecom – “It’s great to be a monopoly, especially with communism backing you up.”

  • Telmex – “Yeah, we’re still a monopoly.”

  • BT – “AT&T, European-style….”

  • Deutsche Telecom – “I need to finish my beer before troubleshooting that E-1.”

  • VSNL – “Yeah, it really does cost that much for an Internet circuit in India.”

  • And finally, any state-owned international PTT – “Whoa, it’s 5 PM, I’ll be leaving now, we’ll fix that critical backbone OC-12 in the morning.”

Anyone have other carriers you’d like add? Or add a line to one of the carriers above?
