Barely had I written about (Microsoft’s) Windows Vista Hardware Assessment being released about a month ago, and made it a definitely important and integral component of our ongoing Windows XP to Windows Vista™ migration plans, than I got a notification that the free product was already in release 2.1!
In a post yesterday in the Windows Vista Team Blog, Baldwin Ng, a Senior PM on the Solution Accelerators team, outlined the new functionalities in WVHA.
This new release, which I downloaded yesterday, and proceeded to test against a client’s network, a few moments ago, WVHA has added IP range scanning, a feature I didn’t know I needed, or for that matter valued , prior to now.
As I did with the earlier versions of this tool, I came away impressed with the reports presented at the end of the scan. I was more impressed by the fact that I could limit the range of systems scanned using the IP range filter.
In addition to that, it includes SNMP discovery for use on SNMP-enabled, non-Windows OS devices, and six, yes 6, additional languages.
Props to the Baldwin and his Solutions Accelerator team for continually updating this immensely beneficial tool.
You know migrating to Windows Vista is inevitable. Get on the bus!
