Cisco targets hospitals

Analysis
Aug 20, 20071 min

Cisco’s strongest sales growth is in hospitals, according to a Reuters report. Its healthcare unit has doubled its sales since it was created two years ago, and annual revenue is “well over a billion dollars,”  according to Jeffrey Rideout, Cisco’s head of healthcare, as cited by Reuters.

Healthcare is close to John Chambers’ heart as both his parents worked as doctors, and he would spend the night in hospitals when both parents were on duty, according to the story.

Cisco is anticipating growth in sales of wireless technology to hospitals, along with “hospital gadgets to deliver and track health records electronically.”

Cisco is also selling “Health Presence” to hospitals for teleconferencing.
