India will vote against Microsoft’s bid to get OOXML accepted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Forbes is reporting. The story says that the Bureau of Indian Standards’ technical committee chairperson, Nita Verma, told the media: “We unanimously agree on the disapproval of OOXML [Open Office Extensible Mark Up Language] with comments.”
Not sure what the total count is against OOXML so far, out of the 120 countries that will take part in the vote, China, Canada, Brazil and India have openly declared a “no” vote.
Still, even if OOXML is voted down by ISO, its inclusion in Microsoft Office is likely to turn it into a de facto standard, says Gartner. Also see: Brazil says no to Open Office XML
