The IDG Executive Forum The Security Standard wrapped up earlier this week, and Network World had it covered. If you missed the Chicago event, you can check out our video about what security issues were on attendees’ minds (more to come). One of the most fascinating stories to come out of the conference was this account from Boston College, which a couple of years ago had a data breach that put the personal info of 100,000 alumni (and *cough* potential financial contributors *cough*). This story is about how they recovered from the breach and tried to regain trust. Then there was this interesting conversation about where we are, information-security-wise, in the six years since 9/11. A financial industry exec charged that they’re “alone” in their security efforts and that the federal government is doing an “abysmal job.” Cisco was active at the show, introducing NAC gear and insisted its many acquisitions are not hurting innovation. One expert pointed out that data-leakage prevention tools have their shortcomings, so read this article before going down that road. And lastly, there is apparently some conflict at C-level – one hot topic at the show was, why can’t CIOs and CSOs just get along?
