The blasted song has been driving me bonkers since driving the kids to soccer on Saturday with the oldies station on the radio.
Help.
Please.
Also, if you believe that earworms can be contagious and that all it takes to get one is to hear or read the name of an earworm-bearing song, well, I beg you to stop reading this post.
I mean it.
You’ve been warned.
The song is …. uhg … Cher’s “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves.” And I’m in Day No. 5 of the torment.
Are you hearing it? … Hey, I warned you.
(Update: I knew I could count on the always helpful humanitarians at TotalFark’s TF Discussion forum to rescue me from this misery. Since that part of Fark requires a subscription to view, I’ve reproduced here the best of the SFW earworm remedy suggestions that were offered there. Those who subscribe and want to see the director’s cut should go here.)
“Ethyl, with a syringe… then just flame it out with a bic lighter. Will only pinch for a second but should be clear nearly instantly.”
“Transcranial lead injection?”
“I think birds like worms. … Put a bird in there.”
“Go watch the Badger, Badger, Badger, Mushroom song. Unless that is the song that is stuck, in which case, you are screwed pal.”
“The version of Spanish Flea by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.”
“The Purina cat chow song: Meow, meow, meow, meow…”
“Put on talk radio. It deadens the ears and the in-between bits.”
“Serious answer. The Tonight show theme. I am using it right now, since Body Movin by the Beastie Boys has been in my head in constant rotation for 48 hours.”
“Theme song from Hockey Night in Canada. Guaranteed earworm cure for anyone who grew up with it.”
“I usually just use Manha Manha to clear out anything stuck in my head.”
