Tossing a kid out of class for having long hair? I know it’s Texas and all, but still … the mind boggles.
Of course, the young man’s profession of a religious exemption to school rules due to his Rastafarianism – for all I know completely legit – does have that feint smell of … what is it? Ah, yes, burnt rope. But look at the picture: He’s just a shaggy-haired kid, who, presuming he doesn’t have lice, should be in class dozing through his senior year.
Not since the infamous and ultimately futile “Bong hits 4 Jesus” case have I been this starched by abuse of power by school officials.
The Texas family says they will press their case and ACLU lawyers, true patriots, stand at the ready.
Which brings us to the part of the story that ought to have right-thinking residents of Leaky, Tex., fleeing for saner ground:
“In the meantime, (Ben Jamin) Daly will continue to be taught in isolation and will not be allowed to participate in school activities.”
Isolation? They can’t execute the kid … can they?
