Want to lure the young hot-shots for a career in high-tech cloak and daggers? Speak to them through their medium of choice: video games.
The people who run British intelligence agencies have apparently reached this conclusion.
From the Associated Press:
GCHQ, the surveillance arm of British intelligence, said Thursday it hopes to attract computer-savvy young recruits by embedding job ads within video games such as “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent.”
GCHQ, which stands for Government Communications Headquarters, said it was looking to reach “an Internet-savvy generation of graduate groups.” … In a statement, GCHQ said it hoped the campaign would “capture the imagination of people with a particular interest in IT.”
Now, the AP story indicates that honest-to-goodness spies are of primary interest, but you can be certain that this outfit needs its fair share of geeks who wouldn’t be caught dead in a trench coat.
Maybe you’ll get to work on this cool GCHQ Web site or get involved in this super-secure IP telephony service.
Or terminate someone with the tip of an umbrella, who knows?
Prior to applying, you might want to have a go at this code-breaking challenge in case it’s part of the interview.
And Dad said nothing good would ever come of your gaming.
