A year after researchers at Symantec co-authored a paper on the theory of “Drive-by Pharming”, someone is putting the technology to work. What’s the threat: Essentially, if you view a piece of malicious code through an e-mail or Web page, said code could be used to change the DNS record on your home router to redirect your HTTP requests to malicious sites. And, up to 50% of home routers could be affected. Yikes. I just got off the phone with Zulfikar Ramzan, senior principal researcher at Symantec Security Response, who filled me in on the details of the attack and what you can do to protect yourself:
