Think of it as Interop for porn peddlers

Not just any porn peddlers, mind you, we’re talking the kind who live out there on the wireless technology razor where 3G meets Wi-Fi and the iPhone is nothing but another smut-delivery device.

It’s long been a cliché that pornography drives technological advancement. But I hadn’t given much thought to that industry’s need to convene and converse about hardcore wireless until another editor forwarded to me a press release and conference agenda for next week’s third annual Mobile Adult Content Congress. Have you registered yet? I mean the agenda could be lifted straight from CTIA Wireless or Interop’s wireless track … if not for, well, all the sex.

Oh, sure, there’s a session heralded as “Case Studies From Hustler Mobile Worldwide,” which probably wouldn’t set well as part of your post-conference written report, but many others would pass muster no problem.

There are sessions entitled:

— “International Operator Strategy and Partnerships;”

— “Protect Yourself: Licensing and Intellectual Property Rights;”

— “In the Middle of the Conversation – Anonymous Calling & Texting: The Why, The How & The Money;”

— And, “May I See Your I.D.? Consistent Mobile Age Verification for Content Providers.”

That last one could be moderated by MySpace, no?

There are, naturally enough, other sessions that are geared specifically to the adult-content vertical (or would that be horizontal?).

— “Legal Developments That Directly Impact The Distribution Of Mobile Adult Content;”

— “Erotic Gaming and Gambling;”

— “How To Minimize The Technical Hurdles To Get Adult Content Distributed By International Carriers;”

— And, of course, “Adult Mobile TV.”

You may need to avoid those or attend on the sly, but what IT pro immersed in mobility in any industry wouldn’t benefit from sitting in on this next one?

Mobile Commerce Platform – Options and Alternatives

Consumers want to browse, shop and buy from their phones. However the form factor mismatch between current web content and device screens have left users still hungry for an experience that delivers the type of instant access and gratification that they have become accustomed to from their PC.

Granted, instant access and gratification mean more to providers of adult content than they do to say, CNN or Network World, but in the final analysis we’re all grappling with the same basic issues. And we all benefit from the occasional conference where we listen to industry experts and share experiences with our peers.

Just don’t expect to see Bill Gates or John Chambers giving the keynote here.
