Just for Valentine’s Day over the next two weeks I will post stories with the beginning title, What I love about Cisco and why.

What do I love about Cisco and why? Today it would have to be Cisco CCDE; because only Cisco itself could divide the world CCIE’s. Now I know that I am not the first person to write about this subject, but I had to say something. Many of my friends that are CCIE’s are not happy with Cisco since they think that all of their hard work is for not. Many think that CCIE’s were doing the job that this new CCDE would be doing; I have to agree with them. So why bring the CCDE to market?

Now that we have this new certifications many feel that this will hurt them in advancement and that they will have to switch tracks to this new CCDE. I think that is just what Cisco wants. I have respect for the people who have put the work in and understand the technology. But with all of these exam cram companies that do test preps and lab preps, do you think Cisco was thinking maybe the CCIE is getting diluted?

If you look at what they have done with other certifications and specializations it could be true. It could be that it is a revenue maker for Cisco and that’s why they change certifications and specializations. But whichever way you look at it, Cisco has really caused a controversy. But that’s why we love them here on Valentine’s Day, with the CCDE they gave us something to write about and something for all of the readers to argue about.
