Vote Today, One More Site, and Other Rambles

Today I’m going on a bit of a ramble with a couple of topics – including a good site for perspectives before taking some of the Cisco cert exams, and a mention of another survey about time.

First, thanks to Dave Schulz for subbing for me last week and giving us some info about possibilities for a CCVP lab. Thanks again!

Next, if you’ve not done so already, check out the article by Jim Duffy and Linda Leung. It lists 20 sites useful for Cisco networking folks. I learned about a lot of new sites from the post.

The 20 useful sites article didn’t list one site that I expected to see the Cisco CCNA prep center, at www.cisco.com/go/prepcenter. You need a Cisco login to get on the site, but you can register for a cisco.com login for free and get access to the prep center. The site lists a lot of useful material for prepping for CCNA and CCENT – sample questions, videos, exam demos, and other useful tools, like a subnetting game and binary game.

From the CCNA prep center, you can also get to the main page for Cisco’s CCNP prep center web site as well.

Finally, some of you may remember that a while back I asked how much time you thought it would take to get a CCVP, and whether the time was worth it. (To see those posts, go to these four links:  link 1, link 2, link 3, and link 4.)  Interestingly, the Cisco Prep Center is running a related survey right now, asking how much time it took people to get various Cisco certifications. (Unfortunately, they didn’t include CCVP, which would give us a little better comparison to my posts from back in December.) Regardless, I’d love to get a bunch of folks from this group to go over and vote on their survey. Just go to the prep center, login, and look for the survey – or just go here.

Finally, I’ll circle back and comment about Cisco’s survey results once they’re posted. Should be interesting! In the mean time, I’d be curious about more direct opinions about the following:

How long (number of hours of effort, not number of weeks on the calendar) should it take a new CCNA to pass CCNP?

How long should it take a new CCNP to pass CCIE R/S lab?
