IBM researchers have crammed 6.67 billion bits per square inch to create magnetic tape 15 times denser than today’s offerings. The improvements could guarantee tape’s survival and result in Linear Tape Open cartridges that handle up to 8T bytes of uncompressed data. More here on this storage advance.
