Budding entrepreneurs have until May 31 to enter the California Clean Tech Open competition devoted to innovations that have a positive impact on the environment.
IT experts can enter for the AMD Smart Power Prize, awarded to the best proposal linking IT and electricity delivery to build an “energy web that gives consumers greater control over when and how their energy is delivered and used,” explains the competition organizers.
Such examples include energy portals with real-time pricing information, and household appliances such as dryers and water heaters with embedded computer chips that can automatically adjust functions to conserve energy and ease stress on the system and appliance, according to the organizers.
The AMD Smart Power Prize is valued at $100,000 and includes $50,000 in cash, $20,000 in office space (winners have to establish their business in California), $5,000 in legal services from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, $5,000 in public relations consulting from A&R Partners, and $5,000 in accounting services from Horn Murdock Cole.
California Clean Tech Open was set up to encourage the creation of clean technology companies that foster a healthy natural environment. Among its supporters include AMD, and the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the University of California at Berkeley, Berkeley Institute for the Environment, UC Davis Connect, and the San Diego State University Center for Energy Studies.
