In his recent Storage in the Enterprise Newsletter, Mike Karp points out that “in many areas of storage the ‘deep’ research that is now taking place at universities throughout the world can evolve from technology into product.”
Specifically, Mike points to two projects that focus heavily on storage: MIT Media Lab’s Human Speechome Project, which we blogged here and reported here, and Carnegie Mellon University’s Data Center Observatory, which we blogged here.
Mike says that as competition in the storage market tightens and being first to market is key, vendors will be exploring alternative routes to finding new technologies – tie ups with the academic community.
In his newsletter, Mike aims to report on the progress of the projects at MIT Media Lab and Carnegie Mellon, as well as others, as the summer progresses.
