That can’t be a good sign

Network World is using Akamai to serve up our video, podcast and regular Web traffic to our visitors. Around 11a EST today, I tried to go into their EdgeControl management interface to get some information on a file I uploaded that will appear live tomorrow on our site. The login process was fine but all the other services on EdgeControl were messed up. Log out, log back in… no luck. And there was no mention of problems in the alert section. Around 11:20a, the company said it was having problems with its new reporting system and to use legacy reports instead. I wasn’t trying to do reporting, just trying to use the file manager. Two hours later, things seem to be coming back to normal slowly. But I notice the alert on the front page has changed to:

We are currently experiencing a technical issue testing our disaster recovery system. Engineering is actively working on a solution. Please use the legacy reports if you need reporting data urgently.

Ah, so it’s not really the reporting system. Akamai does have a notice up that they were planning some disaster recovery testing last night and tomorrow night. Looks like they need to work on that system a little more. Thankfully, the traffic being served through their network seemed unaffected.
