Robert Scoble says technology — specifically, HDTV — will accomplish what nothing else has been able to do: Make large numbers of Americans give a hoot about soccer in between World Cup tournaments.
The theory is flimsy but the discussion’s interesting, at least to me, in large part because my darling wife overdid it on Father’s Day and our living room now has an HD television the size of a highway billboard. Watching Italy defeat France on it yesterday was truly a treat — the picture clarity indescribable — but it’s not likely I’ll be watching much soccer again until either my kids start playing or we’re talking about the 2010 World Cup.
