Members of the BuzzBlog Brigade were asked to weigh in on the notion of private property owners being required by regulation or law to secure their wireless networks. Here’s what Joel Trammell had to say:
What business is it of government if I don’t want to use security? It is no different than passing a law that requires me to lock the door on my house. While it might be a good idea to do so, it is no business of government to tell me how to guard my property.
As for the hotel/condo complex in Arizona I’m sure that is all about not taking revenue away from the hotel. It has nothing to do with security, they just don’t want the residents to provide free service to guests who would otherwise have to pay for it.
