Members of the BuzzBlog Brigade were asked to weigh in on the notion of private property owners being required by regulation or law to secure their wireless networks. Here’s what Liam Noonan had to say:
I believe that everyone should be forced to implement security. In some respects this is quite easy. Insist that the only way to connect is to use TKIP and Radius authentication.
The reasons are many but some simple ones would include:
1. Using apps such as netstumbler to sniff your network and grab online banking /shopping data.
2. Using your Internet connection to surf to questionable content, which could result in your arrest and prosecution.
3. Neighbors using your connection to share their Bee Gees collection on a file sharing app that results in you paying hefty fines.
