Yesterday United became the first U.S. airline to receive FAA approval to offer in-flight ‘Net access on domestic flights.
United is partnering with Verizon to install the cabin equipment, yet the whole endeavor has to be approved by the FCC before it’s a go.
According to the AP: “Pricing for United’s service – which will likely launch in about a year – has yet to be determined. Lufthansa charges international fliers a flat fee of $29.95 for an entire flight or $9.95 for a half-hour.”
Wireless access will be a boon for passengers and the airline’s bottom-line, but we’re begging – begging – that cellular service doesn’t follow suit.
