Another case of stupid work-related blogging/forum postings, but this one’s a little different from previous instances.
The Automobile Club of Southern California has confirmed it fired 27 workers over the past month for comments posted on their own time – outside work – on MySpace.com. What’s the problem? The ex-employees disparaged colleagues and “discussed online how they planned to slow down roadside assistance at work,” reports that AP. Some posters even used their own names and pictures. Dopes.
The auto club was alerted to the off-hours shenanigans after one worker said he or she felt harassed by the MySpace musings.
“This isn’t a free speech issue,” said Club spokeswoman Carol Thorp. “You can’t just go on and say anything about anybody – and keep your job.”
