HBO develops first commercial version of Firefox

HBO and its advertising agency have joined forces to bastardize, um, we mean “create” what’s believed to be the first commercially-themed version of Firefox.

Online ad agency Deep Focus has developed a “Rome” theme to promote the cable channel’s new mini-series. According to the New York Post, the Rome version “changes the appearance of the browser’s buttons and icons, giving the screen an antiquated look and feel that harkens back to the Roman empire. The mini-series title and Aug. 28 debut also appear as a constant reminder.”

It’s awesome we can get browsers to look like they did back in ancient Rome. Does this mean it will make every U look like a V? That would be brvtal. The Post says the theme will be downloadable from Mozilla.org or if you click the “Rome” ads on the New York Times or Salon sites.

It’ll be interesting to see how the anti-commercial Firefox community takes to this decidedly commercial development.
