Anyone need a butler?

Media mogul Barry Diller bought Ask Jeeves for an unreal $2.3 billion over the summer and now is dropping company mascot Jeeves and shortening the name to Ask.com.

“Not that I don’t like that fat butler,” Diller said, according to a transcript provided by Thomson Financial.

Well, obviously you didn’t as you canned his pinstripe-suited butt.

Company research indicated Jeeves “started to become a liability” as “consumers still associated the butler with the early versions of the Ask Jeeves search engine, which was designed to field inquiries in the form of direct questions – a technology that delivered inconsistent results.”

Company research – never wrong!
