First Firefox was slammed by Symantec has being just as insecure as IE. Then it was found to sport a Unix/Linux vulnerability, prompting a new release. Now Web analytics company WebSideStory (which also has the distinction of having the stupidest company name ever) says Firefox isn’t chipping away at IE’s browser share like it had been.
The Register reports that the free open source browser “increased its market by only a single percentage point – from 6.75% in April to 7.86% in September – over the last five months. This compares to a one percentage point gain in market share per month that accompanied Firefox’s initial release last year.”
Now to be fair, we’ll admit we love and use Firefox every day. Yet isn’t it unrealistic to expect any product to continue at such a torrid pace? Has the summer of frequent security updates hurt Firefox? Perhaps, but it seems like this download slowdown is something that would have happened anyway. Are we wrong? Blinded by the ‘fox? Do tell.
