Folks in IT better get ready to hear that from panicked sales reps and C-level executives. Research In Motion may have to suspend sales of and, more importantly, e-mails to its popular BlackBerry PDA after the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C. rejected a request to rehear the company’s appeal in the patent infringement case filed by NTP. A previous ruling gave NTP an injunction against RIM, which would limit the company’s ability to sell the device.
With the latest court ruling, that injunction may now be enforced, resulting in many a bewildered traveler wondering how they’ll get the latest office gossip from the airport. And what about the BlackBerry prayer? Meeting attendees may actually have to pay attention to what’s happening around the table rather than sending messages to colleagues lucky enough not to invited.
The only people that may be happy are executive assistants that get “can you work late?” e-mails from a Blackberry-toting boss as they get ready to make the turn at the local country club.
