In an effort to keep up with the Googlers and, well, everyone below them, Yahoo has hired an influx of Hollywood studio execs to branch out into new media.
The result? A blending of two distinctly different work cultures, according to the LA Times. There are our people, the cube dwelling Yahooers, who just want free coffee and more or less traditional IT egalitarian leadership. Then there are the La La Land execs, who want their private offices, personal parking spaces, human PDA assistants and lots of hierarchy.
It’s a culture clash in Santa Monica and a pretty interesting read.
We loved this bit:
“Another story involved [new Yahoo exec and former chairman of ABC Entertainment Television Group Lloyd] Braun reportedly dressing down a computer-support employee for suggesting that if Braun wanted a wireless network in his home he could buy the gear and install it himself.”
