Bill Gates is in India this week, pressing the flesh and pushing Microsoft’s agenda of world domination forward. But did he wait too long to make this trip?

Open source advocates think that’s the case, noting that the IT outsourcing hotbed is increasingly moving in a non-MS direction.

Both sides are tossing around figures to bolster their arguments, but the AP notes the trip will not be for naught in at least one aspect: “Gates is an icon to legions of programmers in India, and Indian leaders and business moguls line up to shake hands with him when he visits.”
