Youth blogs: Bravado or safety risk?

It’s legal for school officials to search students’ lockers when they think there’s a reason, but what about reading youths’ private blogs, which are hosted and produced off school property?

That’s the thorny issue Chicago educators are facing after they found threatening remarks and comments made about a teacher in three middle school students’ blogs.

Now school officials and students are debating First Amendment rights vs. the issue of safety and security.
