iTunes hits a billion

Everyone’s favorite music service proclaims it has now surpassed a billion (that’s with a “b”) downloads in its first three years of existence. Alex Ostrovsky’s download of Coldplay’s “Speed of Sound” flipped the Apple iTunes odometer to the magic number. The West Bloomfield, Mich., native gets a 20-inch iMac, 10 video iPods and a $10,000 iTunes gift card (that’s a lot of tunes!).

As a side note, our own Cool Tools guru would like to think he played a small part in the historic march to a billion with TWO downloads of Lipps Inc.’s “Funky Town.”
