Judge rules worker can’t be fired for Web surfing

A judge in New York has ruled that a city employee can’t be fired for repeatedly surfing the Web at work.

The administrative law judge ruled that the “Web is equivalent to reading a newspaper or talking on the phone” and the worst the 14-year Department of Education employee can get is a reprimand.

Toquir Choudhri was accused of repeatedly ignoring his supervisor’s admonitions to get off the Web. A search of Choudhri’s PC revealed he had been visiting travel and news sites.

This is good news for 99% of American office workers. Now we just have to join that union…
