Annoyed when your cube neighbor’s cell phone bleats out “Turkey in the Straw” in the middle of the workday? And then you hear: “Hello? Right … OK … No, I can’t right now … But you were supposed to pick the kids up…”
You’re not alone. Co-workers’ jingling, jangling cell phones were the No. 1 employee distraction in a recent study, and now USA Today reports that many workplaces are laying down cell phone rules.
Restrictions range from “phones must be set to vibrate” to outright bans.
“There is nothing worse than a cell phone with no owner to be found blasting throughout the office. It is incredibly rude,” notes one peeved person. “It is a common courtesy that most Americans need to learn.”
We disagree slightly. The only thing that’s worse is hearing someone loudly talk to their doctor about an extremely personal medical issue. There are some phrases one should never have to hear over the cube wall.
