
This story in Wired may inadvertently explain MLB’s problem with the technological concept of place-shifting. MLB has, according to Wired, “the most sophisticated Web operation of any pro athletic organization.” It made $60 million last year on ‘Net audio and video subscriptions, which explains why it would have an issue with Sling Media’s Slingbox.
But, in a cool move, MLB does equitably divide all new media revenue among all 30 professional teams. This move gives the small- and mid-market have-not teams much needed revenue so they can better compete.
