If you want to visit historic U.S. sites but can’t afford the gas, just fire up your iPod.

The AP reports that Colonial Williamsburg is the latest attraction to offer free podcasts. Part-education, part-marketing, officials hope the podcasts will inform listeners, and also get them interested in visiting Williamsburg.

Williamsburg offers quite a selection, ranging from trades like gunmaking and weaving to interviews with the re-enactors who portray Washington, Lafayette and others.

Other famous sites offering podcasts include Jefferson’s Monticello and Boston’s Freedom Trail.
