Congress is once again playing the role of the party pooper.
This time the federal overlords are looking to kill Internet gambling with a bill that would ban credit cards for paying online bets.
Bill proponents say online gaming is incredibly addictive and dangerous. Opponents say you can’t regulate the Internet. One interesting fact: U.S. residents make up half of the population of online gamblers worldwide.
“There are no needle marks. There’s no alcohol on the breath. You just click the mouse and lose your house,” says John Kindt, a business professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who has studied the issue.
John must be very proud of that catchy quote.
