The $14,000 rotary phone

  AT&T has been fleecing an Ohio widow who’s been leasing her black rotary phone since 1964. The family of Ester Strogen reports she’s paid $14,666.40 to rent two rotary phones over the past 42 years, even though AT&T allowed customers to opt out of the leasing option starting in 1985. Strogen’s granddaughters realized the problem while helping her with her bills, and wonder how many other elderly are inadvertently paying $29.10 a month to rent phones. Strogen, 82, now has a push button phone, and some regrets: “I’d like to have my rotary back. I like that better.”
