The National Science Foundation said this week it will spend $6 million over the next three years to support a new consortium designed to identify major computing research opportunities, including those involving large-scale computing.
The Computing Reserarch Association has been tasked with creating the Computing Community Consortium (CCC), which among other things will act as a liaison between local communities and the NSF’s Global Environment for Networking Innovations (GENI) Project. The CCC will provide scientific oversight for that next-generation Internet project as well as other big NSF projects.
The CCC will consist of 9 to 15 members and a chair.
The CRA is a 30-year-old organization with members at more than 250 research entities in academia, industry and government.
