Wanna make a little extra scratch? Netflix is looking for the first person to improve the accuracy of its movie recommendations based on subscriber preferences. Come up with the algorithm or formula or whatever, and Netflix will hand you a check for $1 million. “The beauty of the Netflix prize is you can be a mathematician in Romania or a statistician in Taiwan, and you could be the winner,” says Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO.
