A business card with bite

Business cards rarely catch my attention. Of course, business cards rarely carry a cartoon drawing of a spiny, saber-toothed monster uttering the words: “After we get done eating flesh let’s talk about ‘the network.’ “

That’s Sachi Gahan’s card, which the Austin-based venture capitalist handed to me after dinner at Network World’s recent DEMOfall conference in San Diego.

Unfortunately, a couple of my colleagues were seated between Gahan and me so I had precious little opportunity to chat her up during the dinner, but snagged her attention-grabbing card as we were all leaving. It’s been sitting on my desk for weeks now saying, “Blog me, blog me, blog me” (Hey, if it can talk about eating flesh …) So I figured if I was going to blog about Gahan’s business card I should at least do her the courtesy of a quick Googling. Here’s what I learned:

Gahan was a Harvard whiz kid, previously worked for the Office of the Chairman at Dell, and now focuses her attention on finding investment opportunities in the areas of Internet-based software and services for CenterPoint Ventures. And then there is this truly unusual tidbit:

“As an undergraduate student-athlete, Gahan led Harvard’s NCAA Division I women’s water polo program to its first National Collegiate Championship appearance, and returned to the program in the late nineties as head coach.”

So if you’re an entrepreneur in the Austin area with a great idea for a mashup that involves aquatics and the Internet, you might want to give Gahan a ring.

Hey, hold the phone, now that I think about it, might not underwater connectivity be the final frontier? Deep Sea Wi-Fi if, you will … Quick, find me a patent lawyer.
