Zune’s marketing advantage: Preloaded porn

Opinion

Does Zune really have a chance of outselling the iPod? If it comes preloaded with porn, it’s got a shot, we think. Regrettably, a Zune featuring a 1:44 “homosexual orgy” wound up in the hands of a 12-year-old in Chicago, who received it as a Christmas present. The child’s parents are, understandably, upset. The parents did note the box “appeared to be tampered with and the charger was missing.” It’s not like there’s a shortage of Zunes. Why didn’t they bring it right back and get a new one? Oh, wait, they bought it at Wal-Mart. Now the pieces are fitting. Anyway, when the parents complained, “they say the store manager blamed the situation on Microsoft.” OK, that’s funny. Microsoft’s got it bad when even Wal-Mart is dunking on them. The family got a full refund and a $25 Wal-Mart gift card, but the parents say “the damage has already been done.” What’s the over/under on a lawsuit? We’ll set it at Jan. 19.
