Many IT vendors have facilities in Ireland, attracted by the talent pool and the generous tax breaks. Cisco recently set up a global R&D center in Galway. But one prospective employee was none too impressed.
He blogged: “So this guy from one of the CISCO places in the US is talking about CISCO what it does, what he does, the benefits of working with CISCO. So one of the first questions was, are we going to research. Answer NO, all research is done in San Jose … all we want is development of this research …I’m sitting there, only interested in a job if it promotes me academically by giving me a Master’s or a PhD. I’m thinking, they should of advertised it as ‘Like to paint by numbers? Join CISCO.'”
Is this a fair criticism of Cisco’s R&D strategy in Ireland?
