The phone as an audio input device

Yodio, a community site for creating and sharing audio casts, just hit the stage. The idea is that you have pictures you want to share, so you post them up to their site, dial a phone number, record some audio and the site pulls it all together. It’s Flickr-plus. Yodio claims to have algorithms to clean up the incoming audio from the phone, but there’s only so much you can do with phone audio to make it sound good. It’s the old garbage in, garbage out problem. The phone as a limited sound range. Always have, always will. To make the system better, Yodio should offer a way to call in via Skype, which has much better quality audio than the phone, or offer a small client-side application for recording audio from a microphone connected to the PC. That would make for a rich application.
