Cisco has lured away some key executives from Nortel’s Ireland R&D facility to work at its new Galway operation, according to a story in last week’s Irish Times. The story is written by John Collins and you’ll need a subscription with the Irish Times to read it but Collins has the story up on his blog.
Collins writes that Cisco has poached around one-quarter of staff employed at Nortel’s facility, which is also in Galway. The story reports that Nortel’s chief in Ireland will head up Cisco’s facility (the story cites the chief’s name as “Mike Conroy” but on Nortel’s Web site it’s cited as Chris Conway).
Cisco’s Ireland operation was opened last November and it’s reported that Cisco is looking to grow the staffing numbers to around 200 in three years. Nortel employs 300 people in Galways and the Irish Times reports that Cisco has lured away 14 Nortel employees.
