When I first heard about this (rumored) deal, my first thought was, “Why”???
The more I ruminated about, the more I came to really, truly dislike the (rumored) deal.
Why?
Tell me, what does Y! bring to this dance?
In every facet, Microsoft competes very well, and better than Y! in many spaces except for Flickr.
Since Flickr, IMO was the only compelling reason, I did not see any reason why Photobucket** was not on the M&A purchase list at Microsoft instead of Yahoo! (BTW, it was rumored today that Photobucket has agreed to be purchased by MySpace for $$$.)
For Flickr and some other properties, $50 billion was going to be spent?
Thank God that by all indications, cooler heads have prevailed, and the ardor of Microsoft for Y! has evaporated!
For goodness sakes, small round-out purchases instead of the Maalox moment I had all weekend thinking of the debacle that would have been MSFTY!
Since I’m not a financier, did I miss any synergistic advantages to such a deal? Tell me.
