One of those things that slip through the cracks: Polycom and Alcatel announced what they’re calling a multi-year partnership to integrated products targeting desktop conferencing. The two companies will woo joint customers in the beginning. The gist of the annoucement, Alcatel is integrating Polycom’s PVX desktop video software and VSX conferece room units plus the MGC bridges with its OmniPCX Enterprise IP communications platform. SIP ties everything together. When fully implemented, a user sitting at their desk can get a call on their IP phone then add video by hitting a softkey option on the phone. The backend integration will tie the audio call with a video call between the two participants.
