This article in the Washington Post caught my attention. I’ve got a 55-mile one-way commute to work and traffic updates are key to avoiding traffic-related stress. The big problem is our local radio station does to usually report typical backups on the main road leading into our office, unless there’s a really bad accident. The issue is there are two ways I can go – down the main road or take some backroads to the office. But to take the backroads, I have to get off the highway a few exits earlier and would have to know about the backup in advance. What would be cool is if a GPS-enabled phone could be programmed to grab a traffic cam shot of the road in question when I reached a certain point in the commute. Seeing if the road was clear or not would make the backroad-vs-main road decision a snap. The technology is there, someone just has to implement it!
